The Sunshine Acres website is the Internet extension of a family owned business based in Barnsdall, Oklahoma. The focus of this business is to provide information about as well as purchasing access to the beautiful Miniature Hereford breed of cattle. Sunshine Acres can help those beginning a hobby or getting into the business of raising Miniature Herefords gather much needed information as well as make that all important first livestock purchase. Sunshine Acres Ranch is owned and operated by the husband and wife team Randy and Carolyn Rogers. The advantages of owning Miniature Hereford Cattle. Miniature Hereford Cattle gain in popularity as the size of family farms shrink. The day of 100 to 500 acre family farms is declining. Today most family farms are 2, 5, 10, or 20 acre family homesteads. The smaller cattle breeds are well suited for these small acreage farms. Small cattle are easier on the land, equipment and facilities. Pastures stay greener longer because of their lighter weight and their smaller feet don't tear up the ground as bad as larger cattle. You can run more animals per acre with Miniatures. Beef production per acre is higher with Miniature Cattle. The smaller cattle are 25% more efficient in terms of feed conversion than their larger counterparts and therefore eat much less. About 1/3 the feed. One beef in the freezer is a lot more desirable than raising more beef than you need. They are not intimidating like large cattle and are easier to handle. All of our cattle are registered with the American Hereford Association. We will have a few calves at weaning. They will have shots, dewormed, and be registered when they leave here.
